May 2025

This month I wanted to focus on Earth and things we can do to help it and us. I have been planting some nice flowers and some tomatoes recently and the joy it brings me when i get my hands dirty and grounded with mother nature is unlike anything else. It doen't take much to grow plants and help Earth heal from the damages we as humans have either knowingly or unknowingly produced. Seeds can be found at most public libraries for free or one can start something called a seed library where one can "checkout" seeds to plant in their garden or maybe in a community garden. On a side note I believe there should be more community gardens where the community can go to plant and grow food and/or flowers to better help the Earth and its community. I want to see your gardens be them indoors or out and I will publish them in next months edition of Simply 49!

Longer Healthier Lives

According to statistics human life expectancy has grown over time. People are living longer healthier lives because of the advancements in the medical field. More so also, people are taking better care of themselves by quiting smoking, eating healthier, and exercising more. With that being said; The retirement age keeps increasing. I know it's not a topic most of us want to have to deal with but the earlier we tackle that worm the better the outcome for us when we finally get to that age. We need to start putting aside anything we can every payday and I know a lot of us are living paycheck to paycheck and it seems like a difficult task to do but think about this... Can we go without that cup of coffee one day or maybe eat at home more often? Little things add up. I recently came across an article by Forbes called 5 Steps to Build a Strong Financial Plan and it recommended we follow a plan called the 50/30/20 plan. 50% goes towards necessities, 30% goes towards entertainment such as going to the movies, eating out, or going to do activies such as mini-golf, and 20% goes to saving the money in a bank or at home in a safe though they recommend a savings bank account. Like Forbes I also advice to always put away money for emergencies.
